Commission Fines Jasudavicius but Upholds Win After Silva Appeal

The Manitoba Combative Sports Commission has fined Jasmine Jasudavicius but upheld her unanimous decision win over Karine Silva following an appeal stemming from their bout at Canada Life Centre.

Silva appealed the result of their UFC Winnipeg matchup after video from the fight showed Jasudavicius with an object in her mouth, prompting an investigation and formal hearing by the commission.

In its findings, the commission stated that “an unauthorized foreign object was present,” and cited “the safety violation and breach of the Act of Regulations.” However, it also noted it was “unable to to verify the specific item or determine whether it provided any potential advantage.”

“Without evidence regarding the item in question, the commission concluded there was insufficient basis to overturn the result of the bout,” the ruling stated. Jasudavicius received the maximum possible fine, but her victory over Silva remains on the books.

Jasudavicius, for her part, said of the object, “I didn’t even think about it, it went in with my mouthguard, and I still chew it normal, and then I just took it in between my lip and then during the rounds I have a couple of chews,” as the commission’s process played out on April 18.
