Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return to the octagon ended in sudden fashion at UFC 329, as he suffered a leg injury and lost to Max Holloway by first-round injury TKO.
Fighting for the first time in about five years, McGregor’s rematch with Holloway at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas lasted just 69 seconds. He opened the bout with a sprinting jump kick, but his leg immediately gave out, forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight and award Holloway the first-round injury TKO win.
UFC president Dana White said his medical team fears McGregor suffered a torn ACL.
McGregor’s longtime head coach, John Kavanagh of SBG Ireland, has reacted to the setback. Kavanagh said the specific kick on which McGregor was injured was planned and drilled during training camp, and indicated that speculation McGregor entered UFC 329 with a pre-existing injury is false.
