20-07-26

Jay Alderete capped a wild co-main event at Fury FC 121 with a second-round finish over Cameron Smotherman in Houston, then sparked post-fight chaos inside the cage.

The 19-year-old bantamweight prospect dropped Smotherman with a head kick before securing a D’arce choke in Round 2. The bout was marred by multiple low blows from Alderete, including several brutal low kicks below the belt, leading to a one-point deduction in the second round.

Tensions boiled over after the stoppage when Alderete taunted Smotherman. Security had to intervene as Smotherman tried to get back to the cage.

Alderete has now finished five of six opponents as a professional. Following the victory over the UFC veteran Smotherman, he led the crowd in chanting for a UFC opportunity. The combined record of Alderete’s previous opponents was 9-23.
