Cain Velasquez Shuts Down MMA Comeback Talk After Weigh-In Role
28-05-26

Cain Velasquez has made it clear he is not looking to return to MMA competition, despite a high-profile appearance at ceremonial weigh-ins.

The former UFC heavyweight champion was on stage for the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano ceremonial weigh-ins, overseeing heavyweight faceoffs between Francis Ngannou and Philipe Lins, and Robelis Despaigne and Junior Dos Santos.

Velasquez said any potential comeback would only be driven by an exceptional financial offer. "The money has to make me want to do it because, I've said this before, I don't want to do it," Velasquez said. "I have other interests now. But the money really has to make me want to do it, and I don't think anybody is willing to pay that."

He acknowledged that fighting again is theoretically possible but downplayed his interest. "I mean, I can always (fight again), but to what degree is something different, as well," Velasquez said. "Of course, we could always do it. But to what degree are you doing it at?"

Velasquez also ruled out coaching as a way to stay involved in the sport. "In that way, I don't. It doesn't interest me anymore," he said. "I get so into what I'm doing that, whatever you want to call it, it doesn't do it for me anymore."

Velasquez last fought in February 2019, when he was knocked out by Francis Ngannou in 26 seconds to end his UFC career. He was paroled in February after a 10-month prison term following a no contest plea to an attempted murder charge.
