Brendan Schaub believes Nate Diaz’s TKO loss to Mike Perry at MVP MMA 1 has slammed the door on a long-discussed trilogy with Conor McGregor.
Diaz was stopped by Perry this past Saturday when his corner halted the fight after Round 2, and Schaub argued that the performance severely damaged Diaz’s UFC future and his shot at McGregor.
"Here's what's kind of weird: Talk about the butterfly effect, Nate looked so bad that he's never fighting in the UFC ever again," Schaub said, adding, "That's what f*cked him. Because remember, he was like, 'Me and Conor will get to it, I'm going to do my thing, he's going to do his.' Yeah, but you looked awful."
With Conor McGregor’s return now announced against Max Holloway at UFC 329 on July 11, Schaub called Diaz "probably the biggest loser as far as losing the sweepstakes to fight Conor for the third time," and continued, "His performance was such a shell of himself, the UFC's never going to sign him again. This is a fact."
Schaub also pointed to Charles Oliveira as another casualty of McGregor’s booking, criticizing the way Oliveira captured the BMF title against Holloway at UFC 326. "The other loser in all of this is Charles Oliveira because Charles Oliveira fought for a BMF title against Max Holloway. If he would have won that fight by striking or if he would have at least made it entertaining, he would have got the Conor McGregor sweepstakes because they want Conor to fight for a belt. He won the BMF by playing it safe."
