Brendan Schaub has taken aim at veteran referee Herb Dean, accusing him of failing to take points for repeated fouls in recent UFC fights.
Schaub highlighted that Dean’s officiating has been questioned in three consecutive UFC events, pointing to public complaints from Alex Pereira, Andre Fili, and Michel Pereira after their recent losses. In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 280 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Michel Pereira was eye-poked, kicked in the groin, and had his hair grabbed multiple times by Shara Magomedov, who went on to win a 29-28 unanimous decision.
"It's not happening to all referees. It's happening to Herb Dean. This is three in a row, bubba. At some point you have to inset yourself, and I just don't understand why you're so scared to take the point. Why are you so scared?" Schaub said on his YouTube channel.
Schaub, who noted that Dean has long been regarded as a leading MMA referee, focused particularly on the Magomedov vs. Pereira bout. "With Shara 'Bullet' grabbing the hair, it's like, 'What the f*ck are you doing, Herb?'" he said, later adding, "At some point, insert your goddamn authority into the fight. And you hear this all the time: I don't know how it became a thing, but you hear, 'Refereeing is the toughest job in the world.' No, it's not. Do your goddamn job. Do your job. Do your job."
