Brendan Fitzgerald Backs Max Holloway for Conor McGregor’s UFC 329 Return

Brendan Fitzgerald sees Max Holloway as the ideal dance partner if Conor McGregor makes his long-discussed return at UFC 329 in Las Vegas.

McGregor has not fought in the octagon for more than five years by the time UFC 329 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 11. He was previously scheduled to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 but withdrew due to injury. UFC president Dana White has said "it's looking good," and previously pointed to UFC 329 as a possible date.

"I know the Conor rumors are out there, and I think everybody is in agreement that we would love to have Conor back in the octagon as soon as possible," Fitzgerald said, adding, "What possible better place than International Fight Week at a Las Vegas numbered event to do it?"

Fitzgerald singled out the former featherweight champion as the most logical choice for that spot. "Max just seems perfect," he said. Holloway has expressed interest in a rematch with McGregor and is willing to fight at welterweight.

Looking at other names, Fitzgerald noted, "Charles Oliveirais not booked right now, but he really wants the title. … Max obviously off the top of the head seems like the most fitting. There's history, weight class, and all that sort of stuff." Holloway previously lost to McGregor in August 2013.

Fitzgerald also weighed in on how the matchup might look after McGregor’s layoff, saying, "It's tough to quantify (how Conor will look). … I would think Max is a pretty sizable favorite just since he's been active..."
