Brandon Jenkins is set to face Chris Avila at Most Valuable Promotions' first MMA event, which will take place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif., and be broadcast on Netflix.
Jenkins enters the bout with a professional record of 16-11, while Avila holds an 8-9 mark. The matchup marks Jenkins' debut for Most Valuable Promotions after a career that has already taken him through UFC, PFL, Karate Combat, Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA, and various regional promotions.
"I'm all about experiences," Jenkins said, reflecting on a journey that began with more than 30 amateur fights, including unsanctioned bouts in Alabama before regulation. He added that his management, Iridium Sports Agency, played a key role in securing the MVP opportunity: "(My management) Iridium Sports Agency was like, 'Hey, go to your email and sign this contract," and, "I was like, 'What is it?' They're like, 'It's Netflix.' I was like, Holy sh*t, OK I'll do it."
Jenkins, who made his amateur debut in 2010, began shifting more fully into a coaching role at Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas in December, but he is not ready to close the door on his own career. "So I'm never gonna say the R-word. I'm gonna keep it open you know, but the days of chasing stuff that like I've already (done are over). I'm gonna try to be like more like Davey Grant. He's my favorite fighter and I just want to leave a legacy of bangers."
