Ben Bonner stunned Austin Trout with a knockout at BKFC Liberty Bell on Friday, reclaiming the BKFC lightweight title in emphatic fashion.
The finish came just 30 seconds into Round 2 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, when Bonner landed an overhand right that ended Trout’s night and secured the championship for the second time in his career.
Trout, a 40-year-old former boxing champion, entered the bout with an unbeaten run under the BKFC banner and had never previously been knocked out in this manner in combat sports. His only prior stoppage loss was a retirement in a boxing match against Jarrett Hurd in October 2017.
With the win, Bonner not only reclaimed the lightweight belt but also handed Trout a type of defeat he had not experienced before in a long professional career.
