Ben Askren took the mound at American Family Field on Friday evening, tossing out the first pitch before the Milwaukee Brewers’ game against the Miami Marlins as he heads into what he says will be his final wrestling match.
Askren, appearing at the Brewers’ home in Milwaukee, delivered the ceremonial throw to third base coach Matt Erickson. He did it while sporting a Brewers City Connect Wisco jersey, shorts, and sandals.
The appearance comes one day before Askren is scheduled to wrestle former UFC champion Belal Muhammad at RAF 11 at UWM Panther Arena on Saturday. Askren has stated that the bout against Muhammad will be his final match.
Askren’s return to the spotlight follows his recovery from severe pneumonia and a double lung transplant. The moment was highlighted in MMA Junkie’s Blue Corner blog section, tying a unique baseball cameo to a notable combat sports farewell.
