Alonzo Menifield crashed the party in Macau, stopping Zhang Mingyang by first-round knockout in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 277 at Galaxy Macau.
Menifield, described as a sizable underdog ahead of the light heavyweight bout, put Zhang away with 45 seconds remaining in the opening round. The result extended a rough night for the home crowd, as no Chinese fighters on the undercard had won before this co-main event.
The loss marked Zhang’s second consecutive knockout defeat. He entered the fight with a 19-8 MMA record and a 3-2 UFC record, with his first three UFC appearances all ending in bonus-winning first-round knockouts before a loss to Johnny Walker this past August.
Menifield came in with an 18-6-1 MMA record and an 11-6-1 UFC slate, and leaves Macau with one of the most notable wins of his UFC tenure.
