Alexander Volkanovski does not see Jiri Prochazka getting an immediate second shot at Carlos Ulberg after their UFC 327 title clash in Miami.
Prochazka was knocked out by Ulberg in a vacant light heavyweight championship fight at UFC 327 and later expressed his desire for a rematch. He also said he pulled back after noticing Ulberg had injured his leg during the bout.
Volkanovski pushed back on the idea that those circumstances would warrant running it back. “Nah, that's not going to happen,” he said. “I like Jiri. I'm not having any shots, but it doesn't work like that. Even though his (Ulberg) leg was busted, it looked like it was always going to be a tough fight for Jiri except for when his leg was busted, and he was still able to get the job done. I don't know how you can convince the UFC to give you a rematch because of these circumstances. They're going to be like, 'Wait, he tore his ACL and still managed to knock you out. It was a lot worse on his end than your end.'”
Volkanovski also highlighted how Ulberg handled the injury in the cage. “He was kicking the leg knowing that the other leg is going to buckle, so it's tough,” Volkanovski said, adding that from his view, “Carlos is looking good, Jiri looks like he's going to be in big trouble now.”
Prochazka now sits at 32-6-1 in MMA and 6-3 in the UFC, while Ulberg holds a 14-1 MMA record and 10-1 mark in the UFC.
