Alex Pereira is moving up again, as he’s set to face Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC heavyweight championship in the co-main event of UFC White House at the White House in Washington, D.C.
Pereira, known as "Poatan", enters the bout after previously holding UFC titles at both 185 pounds and 205 pounds. He captured the middleweight belt by defeating Israel Adesanya, then went on to win the light heavyweight title by defeating Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295.
Gane brings his own heavyweight pedigree into the matchup. The French standout is a former interim UFC heavyweight champion and has twice challenged for the undisputed heavyweight title.
According to the article, Pereira is ranked No. 3 in the MMA Fighting Pound-for-Pound Rankings and has recorded three successful title defenses in a seven-month span. Gane’s most recent title challenge at UFC 321 ended in a no-contest due to an accidental eye poke to Tom Aspinall.
