Alex Perez’s flyweight clash with Sumudaerji at UFC Macau ended in a no-contest on Saturday after an accidental groin foul halted the action in Round 2.
Nearly two minutes into the second round, Sumudaerji landed a front kick below the belt on Perez, leaving Perez on his knees and prompting a lengthy break in the action. The fight was officially stopped at 1:45 of Round 2.
Referee Mark Craig and cageside official Marc Goddard consulted before ruling the bout a no-contest due to the accidental nature of the foul. During the sequence, Craig was heard saying, "It’s just saliva."
Before the stoppage, Sumudaerji had been consistently outstriking Perez and had him hurt early in the second round. Sumudaerji entered the bout with a 19-7 record and Perez with a 26-10 record, and both now have one no-contest on their records. Perez’s outing in Macau followed a stretch of cancelled fights and weight misses in recent years.
